Grammar instruction and practice this year will focus on sentence structure, proper punctuation and subject/verb agreement. We will review previously taught parts of speech, as well as adding interjections and prepositions. There will be focus on irregularities within the parts of speech and plural words.
Students should expect at least one homework assignment per week on the grammar lesson for that week. They will have a daily practice at least three times per week during class. In addition to direct instruction and directed practice, students will have independent classroom practice during the week.
Grammar will be assessed through weekly quizzes and on unit tests, as well as within written papers throughout the year. I expect students to practice fundamental proofreading before turning in written assignments, so points will be taken off for grammatical errors.
Grammar homework will be scanned and posted under the homework tab of this page.
